About me

Hi! I’m Mel.  I’m a 28 year old runner/yogini. I am a full time student in UNC’s ABSN program.  Expected Graduation Date – May 2012!  I’ve been doing yoga for about 6 years and running…er really since I can remember. The first time I actually remember telling my dad “I’m going running”, to which he of course replied “take the dog” was somewhere between ages 12-14.

Not too long ago I discovered the wonderful world of food blogs and I was inspired to start my own.  I absolutely LOVE reading blogs and I consider a lot of my blog friends to be just as much “real friends” as people I interact with daily.  I almost never find my food habits dull anymore, because I always have fantastic ideas from my fav blogs!!!  In fact, the only hard part is choosing one idea over another!!  I do have a few food rules:

1)  Keep it simple. If a recipe is too complicated I know that I will be exhausted when I leave the kitchen and not refreshed and happy.

2)  Keep it mostly veggies & whole grains. Splurges are okay and often encouraged, but as long as I ultimately get in my power foods I’m a happy girl.

3)  Be Happy Not Guilty. I’ve spent enough time already feeling guilty about what I eat so now that I consider myself a “healthy eater” I know that I’m giving my body what it needs.  If I get excited at the thought of a previously thought “bad food” then I go for it.  Food is about nourishing my body, but its also about fun :-)

Other TRY fact:

I’ve been married for over 7 years to my Angel.  I call him my Angel because he really absolutely is :-)  I’ll try not to get too sappy too often.

I love music and I’ve been playing the piano for over 20 years.

I’m a total bookworm (see my listography link).  <–well not so much last year, but I plan on making a come back June 2012 ;-)

I’m a little bit of a hermit IRL “in real life”

My Birthday is on July 4th!  My dad told me that the fireworks were all for me when I was little so I used to think I was pretty important ;-)

Oh ya, and I’m a tad bit obsessed with my pup if you haven’t noticed yet.

    • Thanks Dayna!! Sorry about the switch, but a bunch of things had kind of been building up to my decision and then the pingback issue was the final tipping point.

  2. I have been considering making a switch as well. I really don’t want to move everything over to a new blog, but uploading pictures and then having to cut and paste them to the appropriate place in the post is really time consuming and getting on my nerves! The other night I spent about an hour putting together one of my blogs and then I couldn’t get it to post in it’s entirety! Yarrrgggg! How are you liking WordPress??

    • Dayna, I didn’t have to move anything. WordPress has an import function that automatically brings everything over from blogger, live journal, and a few other web sites. It was very easy and I’m a tad computer challenged. I’m still loving it!

Hey! So, I think that I’m gonna switch over from blogger. I really like all of the option that come along with it, but it’s a bit overwhelming. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the tabs at the top like the “about me, running, and yoga” ones that you have. Any pointers? Also, do you know if we are able to follow other blogs on our site like we can on blogger? I really like logging on and seeing everyones new posts.
    Thanks!

  4. Sure. Start out by signing up for a blog, then choose your template. Here is where you really need to take your time! I had to change my original template because it had 3 columns and I only wanted 2. I thought that I could change it, but some things are not adjustable- it all depends on the template you pick. My advice is pick the template that is formatted the way you want it regardless of colors etc. because that will make it SO much easier to already have things the way you want them. I picked a template that already had tabs so all I had to do was edit the page. Once you pick your template, play around with every option on your dashboard and you will figure it out. To import your blog go to dashboard/tools/import and follow the instructions.

As far as still being able to follow blogs, I would just bookmark all your favorites in your browser. I also keep them in a word document just in case.

    Good luck!!

  6. Hey, I have an absolutely random question ( and delete this if TMI ) are you a psych major at Carolina? I just thought with the stats and the abnormal and the 10miler in glorious Chapel Hill you just might be. If you are, I’m jealous, that was my life two years ago. ANYway, enjoying finally reading into your blog, I like the switch…thanks for all your comments, you are too sweet!

    • Its not TMI :-) I actually live in Fayetteville, but I travel for races. I haven’t adjusted my racing schedule yet, b/c I’m not doing a regular running routine yet and I’m not sure what I’m going to be doing this year…. I’m taking prereqs right now, but I will be applying to a Masters program at Columbia and Georgetown (eventually).
