Running changes in 2009
Due to a neuroma in 2009 I have had to change my running routine significantly. First of all, I’m doing much more running/walking together rather than just walking to warm up and cool down. I feel like this has helped me recover without added strain to my foot and I think its pretty fun to take walk breaks. I don’t have a problem getting going again and I look forward to my stop & go routine
If you want to read about the benefits of taking walk breaks I recommend this site: Jeff Galloway . I got orthodics that have made it possible for me to walk and run while taking a lot of weight and pressure off my neuroma and after about 5-6 weeks of no walking or running I started slowly walking and then running again. My doctor said I’m either going to learn to live with my neuroma or if it gets worse, have surgery. So we will see, but I’m sure you know that I’m learning toward living with it!

2010
For now, I’m slowly increasing my mileage. I typically run or walk (or some combination of both) about 3 miles every day or every other day. I’m not having any additional pain with my neuroma, but sometimes I can feel it clicking and I know to lay off for a day or two. At home I’m relying on belly dancing and Jillian Michaels for cardio and yoga and fluidity for strength training and stretching. I also have lots of fun Fit Tv things and other exercise dvds to play with for variety. I really don’t know what this year will bring, but the word of the year for me is going to be flexibility. I need to be ablet o change my routine to fit me instead of making myself fit into a plan.
2011
I’m happy to say that my neuroma is in hibernation. Its not one of those things that really goes away (normally), but I havne’t felt it start acting up in several months. I’m very lucky, because this is really the best best case scenario! My greatest wish is that I can start buildling up some serious mileage again, but I will have to do so very very slowly and be prepared to back off if needed. I would like to attempt a 10 miler or half marathon, but I’m going to focus on smaller races first and then see how I feel. I haven’t signed up for any races yet, but I will update this page when I do!
